ESSENTIAL repairs have been carried out on a branch line to prevent delays and cancellations.
Network Rail says engineers had to reinforce an embankment between Wakes Colne and Bures after heavy rainfall had caused it to slip.
A temporary support was put in place while experts found a long-term solution to prevent damage to the tracks.
Engineers worked over 11 weeks to support the embankment and built a retaining wall using nearly 200 tonnes of gravel.
The drainage system was also cleared and new parts fitted.
Ellie Burrows, Network Rail’s route director for Anglia, said: “This crucial work will prevent delays and cancellations for passengers using this line.
“Our engineers have worked hard to avoid closing the line while they carried out the repairs, while also preventing a far worse situation.”
