Disruption is set to start as major construction work begins on the new development on Manor Street, so here is everything you need to know.

Car parks on Manor Street and Victoria Street are now closed and won't open again until work is completed.

Alternative car parks are available including the Tesco, Sainsburys and George Yard car parks in the town centre.

Residents and visitors can also park overnight at all council car parks.

There will also be no on-street parking outside the Braintree District Museum.

Manor street plans include a new, twin level car park which will open in 2021.

A one-way system has also been put in place so drivers are only able to travel westbound along Manor Street and eastbound along Victoria Street.

Gazette:

This means there will be no access to Manor Street for drivers approaching from Farfield Road. Buses are still able to exit right onto Victoria Street from the bus interchange.

Council bosses say the extension of the public footpath onto the road and the locations of new temporary bus stops make the introduction of this single lane necessary.

The one-way system will be in place for the duration of construction.

Manor Street bus park will also close on March 23 and temporary bus stands will be positioned close to the current bus park site for the duration of the build.

Gazette:

A new and bigger bus interchange is included in the plans and will open towards the end of 2021 after the scheme is complete.

The plans, which were given the green light in March 2019 also include a new medical centre, a hotel and flats.
