Residents, businesses and visitors are being invited to have their say on some major improvement plans.

Plans to move forward with a pedestrianisation scheme of Braintree town centre were given the go-ahead last month following a consultation held in 2018 which found that 76% of people were supportive of the idea.

Braintree Council are holding a further consultation for people to have their say on what they want to see in the town centre.

Drop in events will be held on Saturday, February 1 and Wednesday, February 5 at Kaspa's, High Street from 10am-3pm.

Rob Ely, chairman of Braintree Town Partnership said: "This is exactly what the town needs, I just can't wait for them to get it done.

"Its important that we don't look back in four to five years and think, oh we should have done that.

"Just because I think it's a fantastic idea, we still need a lot of public opinion.

"We shouldn't underestimate what we can achieve, it's absolutely paramount that we get the opinion of local businesses and people; it has to happen.

"My opinion is that its a great thing but that's only my opinion.

"If someone makes a really good argument, I will listen."

Improvements include restricting vehicle access to ensure long-term improvements to the roads and pavements, making more opportunities for events and markets and creating green space areas.

All designs are aiming to increase footfall and encourage people to spend longer in the town.

Councillor Tom Cunningham, said: "Braintree is a thriving town centre, but the way we shop and use our town centres is changing and we need to adapt to this.

"We can be a catalyst for this change, by understanding what people want and need from their town centre which is critical to the success of our businesses and the town's future.

"I would encourage everyone to take part in the survey- the town centre belongs to us all and it really is what we make it."
