Church leaders in Essex and East London will be holding a public Prayer Vigil for the General Election at Chelmsford Cathedral tonight.
Ahead of the Vigil the four Church of England Bishops of the Diocese issued a message to Christians to put aside self-interest and vote for ‘the common good.’
“Is there anything distinctive about how Christians cast their vote?” they ask.
“If there is, it is probably this: we vote not seeking what is best for us, but what is best for our neighbour, what is best for the nation as a whole, what is best for the planet.
“It is what Christians call the ‘common good’.”

The Prayer Vigil is being organised by Churches Together in Essex and East London.
The Roman Catholic Bishop of Brentwood will also be taking part together with representatives of the Baptist, Methodist, Roman Catholic and United Reformed churches, the Religious Society of Friends, the Redeemed Christian Church of God and the Salvation Army.
Everyone is welcome to attend the vigil which is being held from 7.30pm - 8.30 pm.
