IT has been enlightening to see new upgraded e-scooters that have been introduced by Tier to the streets of Colchester with features including dual suspension, indicators and a kick-stand - so that it can now be stood in the middle of pavements instead being slung down on them.

But the more interesting features are:

  • Wider footplates which allows them to accommodate more that one person easily.
  • Dual drum brakes for stable riding on uneven surfaces which allows them to be more easily ridden illegally on the dreadful pavements of Colchester.

They are now painted a bright turquoise colour which means pedestrians now have a chance to catch a glimpse of them just before they get mown down whilst walking on the pavement.

The company does however have an appropriate name in Tier - Trial Intends Excluding Roads.

Talking about vehicles being illegally ridden on the pavement, it’s gratifying to see that the council-led educational lessons aimed at empowering cyclists is working, as they now seem to have far more confidence when swerving amongst pedestrians, riding the wrong way up one-way streets etc.

On a completely different subject, I would like to mention how well the traffic flows in East Street and Harwich Road when the railways are on strike instead of the usual congestion caused by East Gates.
