UNLESS I’m mistaken fines for using bus lanes are camera-led and information taken is used to issue fines (Gazette, August 18, “Sir Bob: ‘I am ready for my day in court’”).
I don’t always agree with what Sir Bob Russell says and writes, but on this occasion I totally concur.
I don’t know Sir Bob personally, but from what I’ve read and heard he has, for many years, been a good MP and ambassador for Colchester and surrounding areas.
Why did the council send out bus lane fines when the restrictions had been temporarily lifted?
How many people work in council offices? Did not anyone in the council know about the situation? If so, why not?
How much taxpayers’ money will be wasted explaining this “faux pas”? - hundreds if not thousands of pounds, money which could well have been better used to mend all the potholes on the slalom course roads in Essex.

Surely the simple solution would have been - switch off the cameras while this operation was in being enacted, and then turn on again when it was finished.
These days there are many varied degrees being taken.

I wonder what the failure rate would be?
