WHAT an extraordinary workout for the mind AV Holmes is proving to be (Gazette Letters, August 10, “Migrants should get asylum in the EU”).
My previous letter merely highlighted the role of the RNLI, which is to save lives, no matter who or why they are in the water, so to receive a deluge of political cuckooism on a grand scale, fails to answer why Brexit bruiser, Nigel Farage, criticises the RNLI as a “taxi service” for migrants, which encouraged some of his followers to throw stones at some brave lifesavers.
Suppress the truth as you wish, AV Holmes, but please do not make the brave and selfless men and women victims of political posturing, because acts of humanity offend the folly and farce of a rough-shod Brexit referendum.
There is no circuit breaker, sir, to the tragedy taking place daily in the Channel run to the UK from exacerbating events elsewhere in the world.
Those who wanted to “take back our borders” fell for such nationalistic nonsense hook, line and sinker!

Even the PM’s father, Stanley Johnson has hot-footed it to France to escape the fall-out from it all.
The Brexit problems are best summed by President Biden, who described our leaving the EU as a “Dunces Charter” and one that made the UK internationally irrelevant, with no power to influence events in the wider world.
I had no idea that within every tired suit there is a caricature of such sovereign drivel, driven by political spin and media manipulation of the gullible.
I will continue to raise funds for the RNLI, and ignore the empty-headed noise that is Brexit.
