MORE than 50 graffiti artists from across the world will decorate central London with the proceeds going to the Gazette-backed Colchester Cancer Centre campaign.

On Sunday, July 3, the Leake Street tunnel, in Waterloo, will be transformed into a live gallery with spectacular pieces being created for auction.

Proceeds will go towards Colchester Hospitals Charity’s Cancer Centre campaign.

The 'Do One Cancer' Jam is being organised by David “Gnasher” Nash, 42, originally from Harlow, and friend Charlie Pugh, from London.

The event was founded by Mr Pugh, 33, in 2015, whose then girlfriend was diagnosed with breast cancer aged 26.

She has since finished treatment and has been given the all clear.

Bbut in March this year, Mr Nash lost his step-mum Andi to bowel cancer.

Mrs Nash, from Frinton, died aged 60, and received treatment for three years at Colchester General Hospital.

Mr Nash hopes the event will raise £4,000 in her honour.

Gazette: Mr Nash said: “Last year I painted because my step-mum had cancer and was too ill to come, but this time we wanted the donations to support the cancer unit where she spent her last days, so it means everything.

"The care she received was absolutely brilliant and with the Cancer Centre, the doctors aren’t promising to find a cure, it’s about making patients as comfortable as possible and they desperately need the new facilities.

While Mrs Nash was alive, David surprised her with a spray painted canvas of Groot, a comic book character from one of her favourite films, Guardians of the Galaxy.

This is his inspiration for the weekend.

He added: “All the artwork will be related to cancer in some way rather than painting on whatever subject and given a colour theme, which is blue for bowel cancer and pink for breast cancer.”

“A lot of the artists will be bringing prints and canvases to be signed and auctioned off and people can interact with them.

“This will raise a big portion of the money, as well as the Just Giving page, but it should be a really successful day.”
