PEDAL power will raise cash for a Colchester recovery centre for the armed forces.

A charity bike ride taking in the north Essex countryside next month is collecting money for Chavasse House, the Help for Heroes recovery centre.

Riders are invited to pedal a 10, 35 or 75 mile route starting from Chavasse House to help meet the centre’s running costs, which are currently part funded by the charity and the Royal British Legion.

A disabled cyclist from Great Bromley is taking part in her recumbent tricycle and is urging others to pick up their helmets for the ride.

Helen Hancox, 41, also rode from Berlin to London earlier this year raising nearly £3,000 for Chavasse House in the process.

She said: “I am looking forward to the Colchester Ride to Recovery as I usually travel 20-35 miles a day on my trike and see the ride as a jolly day out with other cyclists.

“I like how there is a strong focus on doing something new despite your disability.”

To register to take part in the ride visit the Help for Heroes website , email challenges@helpforheroes.org.uk, or call 01725 514106.
