VILLAGERS in Great Horkesley suffered a crime spree with a pub and four cars targeted by criminals.

A substantial quantity of cash was taken from the till at The Rose and Crown in Nayland Road.

Overnight between Monday and Tuesday burglars are believed to have gained access through a window and made off with the contents of the till.

The same night four vehicles were broken into nearby in the area which is usually notable for its low crime rate.

Police were called to Jonagold Drive after thieves took an iPod and Sat Nav from a Volkswagen Golf and a black Volkswagen Passat.

It is not known how they gained access to the cars.

Thieves also broke in through the front side window of a Volkswagen Sharan parked in Keelers Way.

They stole a Sat Nav and two DVD players after pushing the window down with an unknown device.

A grey Audi parked in Tile House Lane was also broken into via the door with another DVD player taken.

Police are investigating all five crimes and asking for witnesses to come forward before anyone else falls victim.

Anyone with information about any of the incidents call Colchester police on 101.
