Caroline Tilley (My View, July 18) suggestsed anyone who didn’t agree with her method of driving round mini-roundabouts should “buy yourself a copy of the Highway Code”. Section 162 of the Highway Code says take the left lane at a roundabout to go left, the left lane for an intermediate exit and the right lane for the last exit. Section 164 says mini-roundabouts should be approached in the same way as normal roundabouts. In other words, lane discipline is identical in both circumstances.

The road markings at mini-roundabouts that suggest otherwise, e.g. choosing the right lane for straight ahead, are not at face value in accordance with the Highway Code, which, in its own words, “may be used in evidence in any court proceedings”.

It’s not just buying the Highway Code that helps, it’s reading it.

Vivian Cook Maldon Road Colchester ...I am writing in response to the comments made by Caroline Tilley and I totally agree with her.

But that’s not why I am writing. My issue concerns a small minority of the people who drive cars such as BMWs and 4x4s.

They seem to think they have different rights on the highway compared to other drivers, who maybe drive say a Fiesta or a Mini.

They have no courtesy on the road whatsoever, and they speed – and taxi drivers are not far behind either.

Surely it’s better to abide by the Highway Code and to be safe rather then sorry.
