A TEACHING assistant who beat breast cancer has completed three marathons in just seven weeks to raise cash for charity.
Tendring Technology College assistant Becky Newman was diagnosed in 2010. She underwent surgery and endured months of chemotherapy.
But she made a full recovery and pledged to raise money for breast cancer charity Walk the Walk. Becky power-walked her way through the London Marathon, and midnight moon walks in London and Edinburgh, covering nearly 80 miles in total.
Becky said: “I’m so proud of what I’ve achieved. It was tough going. Two years ago I was getting ready for an operation and therapy. At that point you can’t see your life going anywhere and don’t know what’s going to happen.’’ Becky, named the country’s best teaching assistant in the 2010 Teaching Awards, has raised £2,300. “I’m grateful to friends, family and colleagues for their support."
