AN EQUALITY charity is appearing at Firstsite to discuss improving life for gay and transgender people in Essex.
Outhouse East, formally known as Colchester Gay Switchboard, has conducted a survey highlighting what needs to be done to support minority groups.
More than 150 lesbian, gay, bi and transgender (LGBT) people took part in the survey at the start of 2011.
It found that most LGBT people change their behaviour to keep safe in Essex, experience twice as much work place bullying and more than half had experienced homophobia.
Now a special panel of guests, including Matthew Todd editor of gay magazine Attitude and Paris Lees transgender activist and campaigner will discuss the findings and suggest ways to improve the situation.
The event takes place at the First Site auditorium from 7.30pm tonight.
