POTENTIAL volunteers for a jubilee festival in a Colchester estate are invited to a reception event to find out more.

Voices for Greenstead is organising the free two-day event during June 2-3 to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Volunteers are needed to ensure the festival runs smoothly and anyone interested in helping out is invited to the Forest Road Meeting Hall on Thursday to see how they can get involved.

The hall will be open from 6pm to 8pm for people to drop in and have a chat with the event organisers, and refreshments are available.

As well as music across the weekend, there will also be performers, stalls, a children’s zone run by the Greenstead Community Centre, and beer from the social club.

The event will be headlined by local band Not Going Out while developers Carillion, responsible for the Colchester Academy new building plans, have pledged a package worth £1,200 including a £500 cash grant and equipment hire for the event.

Terry Marshall, vice-chairman of Voices for Greenstead, said: “Anyone wanting to find out more about the Greenstead Village Festival, or eager to volunteer some time over the weekend can pop in and chat to us over a hot drink and a biscuit.

“This is a free event for the whole community so we want to involve as many people as we can and really make it a success.”
