AN Army officer will cycle 2,745 miles along the spine of America in 20 days.
Major Jon Cox, of Colchester-based 2 Para, is taking on the Tour Divide from Canada to Mexico in aid of the Parachute Regiment Charity.
Major Cox, 31, from Wivenhoe, hopes to raise £5,000 on the solo trip.
He said: “I have done a lot of intense mountain biking, but never something of this length.
Major Cox has been training five days a week and doing rides of up to 100 miles.
He added: “You have to find food while you’re out on the roads. If I’m going past a diner and it’s burger and fries then it’s burger and fries for tea. It’s all part of the fun.”
