ONE man was arrested following a drugs raid on three flats in Colchester.

Essex Police targeted the flats which were all in the same block in Walsingham Road following community intelligence.

Around 20 officers were involved in the operation, held on Friday evening.

Police Community Support Officers wearing cameras monitored windows facing Southway during the raid after reports of drug dealers throwing supplies out to cars.

A dog unit was also used during the operation with a handler and sniffer dog being used to search the building.

One man, 18, was arrested at the scene of the raid on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance.

PC Michael Rogers, who led the operation, said: "It has all been very successful with all three properties contained and searched.

"A small quantity of a suspected controlled substance was found which will be sent off to the lab to be tested.

"The information came from community intelligence and police observation. It is very important to act on this as a lot of crime and anti-social behaviour is predominantly linked to drug use."
