COLCHESTER’S town crier has announced his way to success in two regional competitions.
Wivenhoe resident Robert Needham won at the Ell Day Festival in Ely on Saturday, claiming the East of England championship.
He followed up his success with the runner-up award at Haselmere on Monday.
Robert said: “It’s great to travel and promote Colchester up and down the country. Town Criers are an important part of our heritage and competitions like this help to perpetuate the tradition whilst providing colour and spectacle.
“The name of Colchester continues to receive prominence because of these competition successes and I am pleased to represent my home town of Colchester.”
Robert will soon be representing Colchester at the Kattenfest in Ypres, Belgium and will also be travelling to Wetzlar with members of the Twinning Society to support the Hessentag festivities there.
