SIX jobs at a clothes shop in Colchester, which is set to close, have been saved.

Jacques Vert is to move out of the Culver Walk base it has occupied for the last decade. But all six workers will be employed in a department at the expanding Debenhams store, which is undergoing a multi-million pound revamp.

Manager Linda Gandolfini said sales at Jacques Vert had increased in the last year, but moving into Debenhams, as soon as next Friday, will reduce overhead costs.

She said: “We’re closing due to non-profitability, but all of our jobs have been saved.

“It’s quite sad in one way, but it’s not in another because we have still got jobs and we’re going to a nice home.

“We’ve been trading really well, but we will trade even better in Debenhams because we will get higher footfall. We’re very positive.”

The Debenhams refurb will see the store size increase from 60,000 sq ft to 100,000 sq ft. The restaurant has already been modernised and 16 new concessions, including Jacques Vert, Precis Petit, Kaliko and Planet are gradually being introduced ahead of an official relaunch on June 6.

Andrew Ward, store manager, said: “We are already getting great feedback from customers about the changes.”

The Jacques Vert store is due to close on June 11.
