A RADIOGRAPHER based at Colchester General Hospital has been struck off after directing a series of sexual innuendos at a colleague.

A series of allegations against John Finch over six months were found proven at a Health Professions Council hearing in London.

The hearing was told how during the course of February 1, 2010, he placed his hand on a colleague’s arm and thrust his pelvis several times at her. He also started rubbing the same colleague’s shoulders while she sat at her computer and grabbed her hand for her to follow him when he was told to clean a scanner.

Finch had earlier told the same colleague: “We’ll get a room shall we,” in response to a notice board poster for the Christmas party in 2009.

The panel found Finch had acted inappropriately towards a patient by rubbing her thigh, but found no proof the act was sexually motivated.

Finch, from Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, did not attend the hearing and no-one represented him.

In a statement, he said: “I am not a risk to the public and never have been. I have just been a bit stupid.

“This case has made me reflect on my work and how I can improve myself for the better of others.”

The panel found Finch had limited insight into his actions because he refused to accept his behaviour towards his colleague had any sexual context.

Finch, a radiographer at the hospital from October 2005, was suspended after the allegations were raised, but resigned in August 2010 before a hospital investigation had been concluded.

The hospital trust contacted the Health Professions Council with its concerns. He was has been struck off from the council’s register, which means he has lost his registration and can no longer pursue his profession.
