A “UNIQUE” view of Colchester is on offer at an art exhibition at the Mercury Theatre’s Digby Gallery.

Following on from his show there a few years ago, 27-year-old Colin McAllister is back with intricate drawings depicting his view of the town.

Colin, who now lives in Colchester, wowed audiences at the Mercury with his first local exhibition and looks set to do the same now.

The artist, who grew up in Marks Tey and attended Honywood School in Coggeshall, began sketching at school, but later developed his “doodle-style’’ at Portsmouth University, where he studied computer animation.

His work has been described as a cross between Hogarth and Robert Crumb, taking on a wide variety of subjects, sometimes political or social, or even just a difference of opinion, like his drawing about downloading from the internet.

The most eye-popping thing about his drawings is the intricacy with which he sketches each scene, populating them with weird and wonderful caricatures and satirical jokes.

For his Colchester scenes, Colin has concentrated on the buildings and scenery, capturing the town’s historic nature.

The exhibition continues until May 28. For more information, or to see some of Colin’s work online, go to snublic.com
