Tim Young’s letter (May 2) was exactly what we expect of a politician. The record really needs to be set straight.

To suggest I am a puppet for the far left – and the ex- Tory voters I had campaigning for me will be surprised by this – is one of many outrageous slurs.

This patronising attitude shows these politicians think old people like me are unable to think for ourselves, and merely demonstrates where the likes of Tim Young and Tina Dopson have got it so badly wrong during this whole sheltered housing issue.

My campaign has united people of many different political backgrounds, who have come together to defend the future of sheltered housing.

Abbeygate House has been sold, they want to close my home and a further five sheltered housing schemes are “under review” of closure. These are the Lib/Lab sheltered housing cuts I am fighting.

The most outrageous slur was Mr Young’s accusation that I’ve criticised Greenstead. This has no basis in reality whatsoever.

I am Colchester born and bred. I know and love this town well. I grew up in a council home, and, unlike any of the St Andrew’s councillors – and their best efforts to evict me – I still live in a council home.
