Congratulations to Tendring Council and Veolia for spending thousands on distributing silly little bins to all households in the district.

These are to take recyclable materials “and no more” for fortnightly collection (except food waste), but are too small.

Any excess and all plastic bags, aluminium foil and plastic containers go to landfill. So, three-quarters of what we would put out weekly for recycling will now go to landfill.

You are not even allowed to shred your confidential papers and have them safely taken away, which would have discouraged personal identity theft.

I don’t understand why plastic bottles are acceptable, but plastic pots are not, although the latter can be saved up and taken for recycling at a recycling centre.

Get real!

Martin’s Farm recycling centre has recently closed against much local protest, so why should people save up their yoghurt pots and increase their petrol consumption and carbon emissions (assuming they have a car) to take them to a remote dump?

It’s much easier to put them in the bag for landfill.

Thanks Tendring.

...Since the appointment of a new portfolio holder in Tendring for the environment, councillor Nick Turner, we seem to have an individual who is way out of his depth.

In the first instance, he sat back and, almost without comment, supported the Conservative plans to close Martin’s Farm, despite petitions and opposition from local councillors and the public alike.

Now he has introduced what can only be considered to be a complete shambles with respect to recycling and refuse collection in the Tendring district.

The results of this will secure Tendring district as the worst area for recycling in the whole of Essex, and ensure that at least 25 per cent of organic waste that could be recycled fails to be recycled due to his actions.
