ORGANISERS of a village-style festival in a Colchester estate are looking for sponsors and first aiders.

Voices for Greenstead are holding a weekend-long event on Magnolia Field to mark the Queen’s diamond jubilee on June 2-3.

The festivities will include bands, dancers and a mini-funfair, with the Greenstead Community Centre running a kids’ zone and the Greenstead Social Club opening its doors to non-members looking for refreshment during the event.

Preparations are well underway but the organising committee is still looking for sponsorship to go towards the cost of providing security, portable toilets and other equipment.

The committee is also looking for a group to provide first aid cover, and entertainers such as jugglers, magicians and stilt walkers.

Space is also available for trade stalls and car booters.

Terry Marshall, chairman of the organising committee, said: “If we can secure adequate funding this could be a ground-breaking event bringing the community together, illustrating how Greenstead has matured.

“We are also inviting Colchester in general to come along and see what a great place Greenstead is.

“We have in mind much more than a music festival.

“We are also hoping to run a super raffle over the weekend and have already had some local businesses donate generous prizes, but we need more.”

Performers confirmed for the event so far include Not Going Out, Mono Polys and steel band Pantasy.
