THERE’S a chance to catch the serene sounds of former Colchester schoolgirl Fiona Bevan this weekend.

The London-based singer-songwriter is a regular on the capital’s live music scene but her local fans can catch her at this weekend’s Festeavel in Woodbridge.

This year is proving to be just as busy as last year when Fiona, pictured right, played a special gig at the Tate Modern, contributed a song to a Bollywood soundtrack and then rounded off the year by getting one of her songs on a charity Christmas album.

Colchester gig-goers may remember Fiona from her time in popular pop-rock outfit Rocking Horse.

Along with fellow Colchester County High School for Girls pupil, Juliana Meyer, and grammar school boys, Magnus Williams and Andy Fell, the group electrified the Colchester music scene back in 2002 and 2003 with the release of albums such as the Confession and the Siren.

Last week Fiona performed at the Queen Elizabeth Hall at the Southbank Centre for World Book Day alongside writers Jon Ronson, Andrea Levy and Lemn Sissay.

She’s also recently made it on to the front cover of Indie Music Reviewer based in the USA, which gave her a five-star review for her Us And The Darkness EP This Saturday she’ll be playing at Festeaval in Woodbridge, just outside Ipswich along with Beth Orton, Bastille and Turin Brakes. Other local acts include Kevin Pearce and Ady Johnson.

It takes place at the Tea Hut, River Wall, for more information of the event go to www.festeaval.co.uk
