FUNDING worth hundreds of thousands of pounds has been approved to make five of the borough’s roads safer.

The North Essex Parking Partnership has agreed to fund new parking schemes for five trouble spots, costing up to £400,000.

In Dedham, double yellow lines are to be painted around the village’s war memorial to combat commuter parking during the week and eagle-eyed tourists at the weekend.

Villa Road, in Stanway is also set to benefit, with an extension of a clear way outside Stanway Primary School to the opposite side of the road to prevent dangerous congestion and dropping off and picking up times.

In Eudo Road, there are plans to introduce no waiting restrictions at any time.

There will, though, be limited time waiting bays.

No waiting or loading restrictions will also be implemented in Victoria Esplanade, in West Mersea, to prevent drivers parking close to a dangerous bend in the road.

There will be no parking in Coventry Close, Exeter Drive and Riverside Estate over weekends.

There will also be no waiting in Lion Walk underground.

The schemes which were approved will progress to the next stage, where residents will be formally consulted.

Schemes had been marked by the Colchester Highways Panel out of 100 before being submitted to the partnership.

All the Colchester schemes were approved.
