INJURED paratoopers have set off on a 14-day trek across Morocco to raise money for wounded servicemen.

Four members of Colchester-based 3 Para want to net £40,000 for the Afghanistan Trust.

Sgt Alan Jackson, 29, from Colchester, Private Patrick Burns, 25, from Poulton Le Fylde, Lancashire, Private Mark Vidler, 22, from Canterbury, and Private Callum Urquhart, 20, from Nottingham, were all injured while serving in Afghanistan.

Sgt Jackson, who lost his right leg below the knee and damaged his arm after stepping on a roadside bomb last February, said he was keen to take part.

Nissan has donated two vehicles to help the troops on the trek.

Sgt Jackson said: “We are teaming up with guys from Nissan. There won’t be too much competition initially. However, a bit later on you never know.

“It’s going to be a challenge for all of us, but I’m sure we will get each other through.”

The trust raises funds for injured paras and the families of troops killed in action.
