RACY hoteliers were Four in a Bed when they appeared on a TV show.

Hotel Continental, in Marine Parade, Dovercourt, where guests stay in rooms decorated with pictures of nude women, featured in Channel 4’s Four in a Bed this week.

The show sees proprietors spend a night in a rival B&B, paying how much they believe the room is worth.

Continental owners Gordon and Blossom Hoyles welcomed fellow competitors from Cardiff, Lancashire and Norfolk.

Some got a bit more than they bargained for.

Blossom said: “Gordon does a lot of art and sculpture which is displayed in the hotel, along with items we buy.

“We have broad minds and there are a few nude women in the paintings, as well as racy images on the wallpaper in some rooms.

“Some of the guests said they didn’t expect us to have such tastes, but it is very subtle.

“You won’t find these things in any other hotels and that’s what makes us special.”

Gordon and Blossom have transformed the Continental in the past 16 years, putting profit back into the business to upgrade the rooms to a modern, artistic style.

Features include a ceiling of artificial flower arrangements and a dressing table made with two tree trunks.

Gordon, a former performance poet, was encouraged by show producers to display his talent and took his guests to Dovercourt Library for a reading, before tasking them with a poetry competition.

Blossom said: “You don’t know what other proprietors said about you until you see the programme. It was quite nerve-wracking to watch, but we tried to be fair and honest.

“Some people were playing tactically to win, but we didn’t want to downgrade our industry. I think our hotel is the best.” The show airs daily at 5.30pm until tomorrow.
