NORTH Essex band the Jellycats have beaten more than 700 other bands across the country to make the final of this year’s Red Bull Bedroom Jam.

The group, made-up of lead singer Emma Tamsett, bass player Rob Allan, and brothers Ollie and Stu Cooper, who play lead guitars and drums respectively, got together back in 2010.

They up-loaded a music video of their track Get Along to the Bedroom Jam site three months ago, and following an overwhelming amount of support from their fans, they are now one of 15 bands which have now made the on-line performance stage of the competition.

That meant a television crew popping along to Oli and Stu’s Sible Hedingham house to record the band as they performed in Stu’s bedroom.

The ska outfit performed three songs including latest track, Tie Me Down, and were also interviewed by Kerrang! Magazine’s new bands editor and presenter of the show, Katie P.

Lead singer Emma says: “It was really good fun, if not a little scary.

“Katie was really cool and we spent most of the time talking about our Doc Martin boots.

The final cut is to be broadcast today at 5pm via the competition’s website at www.redbullbedroomjam.com with fans voting on which one they think is the best.

Following the webcast vote, the best eight bands will be put through to the next stage of the competition, which will involve a festival tour with slots at Slam Dunk, Download, Sonisphere and Hevy this summer.

Emma adds: “I think we find out in the first week in May but I am optimistic of our chances. We’re pretty different to the other bands.

“Getting on the festival tour would be amazing so hopefully people will vote for us.”

The three eventual finalists will get a music video made for them and the overall champion will walk away with recording time in the Red Bull Studios London and a support slot on a major act’s UK tour.
