BY day, Michael Hicks is the respectable head of department at a Colchester law firm.

But come the evening, he takes to the stage and transforms into Mr Clementine, paying tribute to legendary swing and crooning stars of the past and present.

He will be singing his heart out for a good cause as part of his fundraising preparation for his participation in next month’s London Marathon.

Mr Hicks is running as part of the Colchester-based Multiple Sclerosis Resource Centre charity team.

He hopes donations and a raffle from his evening at Waffles wine bar in East Street, Colchester, will boost his fundraising efforts.

Mr Hicks, 29, who is head of family law at Asher Prior Bates, in Crouch Street, Colchester, said: “My sister Carla, who is 27, has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and I know the great work the resource centre does to help people with the disease, so I want to do what I can to help them.”

He added: “This is my first marathon and I’m looking forward to it, albeit with a degree of trepidation.”

Mr Hicks will be performing a selection of classic swing numbers at Waffles bar, paying tribute to such greats as Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin and Michael Buble.

Entry to the event, on March 31, is free and Michael will be performing from 8.30pm.

Money raised through the charity events will be donated to the resource centre which acts as a one-stop support service for anyone affected by multiple sclerosis.

The charity helps thousands of people across the country and is soon to launch a centre of excellence in the town.

It moved to its current offices, Unsworth House at Hythe Quay, last year following a £225,000 bequest to the charity from multiple sclerosis sufferer Penny Unsworth.

In May, it is due to open the new treatment and advice centre, called Joseph’s Court, in recognition of the Joseph family which donated £100,000 to the charity.

The centre will have state-of-the-art phsyiotherapy equipment to assist people with multiple sclerosis and will also host courses and workshops, including a room for consultations as well as a weekly drop-in cafe.
