A HOSPITAL’S accident and emergency department was praised for its performance against national indicators.
Colchester General Hospital’s emergency admissions ward saw patients wait an average of 40 minutes for treatment to start, down from 60 the previous year.
Figures from the Department of Health show 95 per cent of patients were assessed within 13 minutes in January, down from 62 in April last year.
The same percentage spent a total four hours or less within the department since April last year, except in June.
The department’s longest-serving consultant, Kazim Mirza, said improved staff levels and increased specialist consultant cover had helped deliver the changes.
