Hollywood film star Clive Owen has agreed to become patron of a famous Essex landmark.

The A-list actor has given his backing to Harwich's Electric Palace cinema, the oldest working cinema in the country.

Mr Owen, who moved to the Harwich area more than two years ago, has already visited the site with his wife and children.

He was delighted to put his name to efforts to preserve the historic building, first opened in 1911.
