Mr Paxon was quite clearly expressing the view that things had changed since parking enforcement had been “handed over to Colchester”, which it hasn’t.

If councillors wish to “keep trade local”, they should remove the restrictions, as is their right.

How can there be a “softer”

approach to a legal restriction?

Are we to pick and choose who gets a fine and who doesn’t, based on some criteria of whether the offender appears “local” or not?

Would that be fair?

He also quite clearly stated there was inadequate parking for the community stadium.

I said it was the maximum allowed by law.

He says that he and others should be free to clog up the street outside someone else’s house in Mile End or High Woods.

How selfish is that!

Finally, his friend paid £6.50 for an hour and ten minutes parking in Colchester.

I suggest that was probably the NCP car park over which the council has no control.

Use a Colchester Council car park and you won’t be charged anything like that.

On week days you can park in St John’s, for instance, for £3.50 all day.

In any Colchester Council car park, press the yellow Special Offer button and you might get a pleasant surprise.
