I experienced my first emergency admission to Colchester General Hospital recently on a busy Saturday evening.

I was so very impressed with the efficiency of my assessment.

I had a full MoT of tests including ECG, chest Xrays, blood pressure/pulse, blood samples taken and analysed all within two-and- a-half hours, all before being transferred to the Emergency Assessment Unit.

Within the assessment unit the dexterity, efficiency and work ethic of all the nursing staff cannot be underestimated, and the food was delivered to suit all stages of illness without there being any waste.

Having been in the past involved in designing hospital engineering services, I was also pleased to learn the cleaning and outside contract staff had been brought back “in house”

under the direct control of the NHS Foundation Trust.

Long live the NHS which should be fully supported by the government.
