A DRIVER had to be cut free after his car careered off the road and overturned in a field earlier today.

The silver Vauxhall Astra went off Brightlingsea Road near the junction with Keelars Lane, near Elmstead.

Firefighters, police and the ambulance service attended.

Two fire crews from Colchester were called and had to cut off the roof of the car to free the man who escaped with only minor injuries.

The incident took place just after 6am with the man freed an hour later.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “Police are investigating the circumstances behind the crash.

“He appears to have lost control and left the road. A section of road was closed for about an hour.”
