HUNDREDS of residents voiced their concerns at an exhibition for a new quarry and transportation site in Ardleigh yesterday.

The proposed sand and gravel pit would cover 250 acres of agricultural land extracting seven million tonnes of material which will run to the transportation site on conveyor belts.

The transportation site would then process up to half a million tonnes of material a year including material coming by road from other quarries.

The proposal is part of Essex County Council’s attempts to provide 40 million tonnes of aggregate by 2028 to build new homes and businesses.
