A WOMAN whose daughter died from a brain tumour is spearheading a hi-tech bid to help other sufferers.

Hollie Bell, 23, from Great Bentley, died three years ago after a 12-month fight against the illness.

Mum Lesley Glover has since raised £28,000 for the Brain Tumour UK charity, with Hollie’s best friend Emily Smith.

Now she’s trying to boost the total to £45,000 in a bid to launch a website and mobile phone app for other brain tumour sufferers.

Mrs Glover said: “When Hollie was diagnosed, she wanted to speak to other people of a similar age with the same illness, but it was hard to find anyone.

“I spoke to Brain Tumour UK and they have decided to use the money raised to set up an online contact service for young people.”

The service will see a Facebook-style website and internet chatroom set up, where young patients can contact each other.

It can also be downloaded onto mobile phones and victims will be able to text message questions to the charity’s support team.

The service should be up and running next year.

Mrs Glover, who works for Colne Housing in Colchester, said: “I thought it would be nice to do something in Hollie’s memory that would help others.”

Hollie was diagnosed after suffering from blinding headaches.

A scan revealed the devastating news in June 2007. Doctors managed to remove 75 per cent of the tumour, but the cancer was incurable.

Hollie’s hair started falling out after she had radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

Mrs Glover said the illness could leave her daughter, who had worked as a holiday rep and at Sloppy Joe’s in Colchester, feeling isolated.

She said: “Hollie didn’t know anyone who had experienced this before, so she didn’t know what to expect.

“She didn’t want to go to a hospice, and there was nowhere else to get help and support, so she felt alone and isolated.

“She always said she would like to be able to contact someone of her own age so they could meet up and talk about it, but there was no way of doing it.”

Mrs Glover has already organised skydives, psychic nights and other charity events to raise cash. She added: “I used to say, ‘Where there’s a will, there's a way’ to Hollie – now I’m trying to prove it. It’s what keeps me going.”
