Reading coverage and interviews regarding the bid for Colchester to achieve city status, one would be forgiven for assuming the main selling point of our town is the heritage which we enjoy.
While perhaps not on the same scale as Colchester Castle on visitors per annum, or indeed size, Tymperleys is a building of value to Colchester, something which is part of our heritage.
A gift bestowed to the residents of Colchester, it is home to a grand collection of ornamental clocks, and its gardens rival the beauty of Castle Park.
Bearing this in mind, it is frustrating that more has not been done and more is not being done to ensure Tymperleys is made open to the residents to whom it was bestowed decades ago.
Other options and solutions have been alluded to, and I hope these are fully explored as a means to reopen the building to the public.
This is not just a museum, this is our museum, gifted by a Colcestrian. For a town whose pride is our heritage, we should not give up our legacy without a fight.
