AN ARTIST has painted a mural depicting village life in Colne Engaine.
Nick Chapman, 60, a retired deputy headteacher, described the painting as a cross between Where’s Wally and the Sistine Chapel ceiling.
He has given the Five Bells pub the painting in 10ins-square pieces. He is not being paid, but the pub is giving him a ticket to visit one of his daughters in Bangaladesh in exchange.
Well-known village figures in the painting include George Courtauld, of the influential Courtauld family, the Rev Viv Brooks, Richard Grace and his Second World War Spitfire and X Factor winner Matt Cardle.
The pub plans to turn the separate pieces into an 11ft wide canvas.
