TRAIN services were delayed after a lorry struck a railway bridge in Colchester.
Trains were restricted to travelling at 5mph over the bridge in North Station Road, close to Colchester Railway Station, following the crash at 8.35am on Friday.
A spokesman for Network Rail said all four lines had a 5mph speed restriction, but it only lasted ten minutes.
He said: “The local operations manager gave a visual examination of the bridge and there was no damage, so he was happy to give the all clear.
“There will be a follow up examination by the structural engineer, which is a standard procedure.”
Essex County Council's traffic information centre said rush-hour motorists were caught in heavy traffic following the incident.
British Transport Police said officers directed traffic and took the lorry drivers details, but that no offence was committed and he will not be reported.
