A COLCHESTER-BASED soldier has been repatriated to the UK after being killed by an explosion in Afghanistan.

Private Martin Bell, of Second Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, ignored an order to go the aid of a wounded comrade.

But the brave decision cost him his life when an improvised explosive device was set off.

The 24-year-old, who was originally from Bradford but was based with 2 Para in Colchester, was flown into RAF Lyneham in Wiltshire, where a private service was held and the cortege passed through Wootton Bassett.
