Colchester councillor Gerard Oxford was quoted several times in the Gazette (January 27) in regard to the bus route 8/8A in Gavin Way.

It was reported he had now discovered the Section 106 agreement between the council and the developer agreeing a bus service could use the road.

The agreement does not legally require a bus route along Gavin Way, a fact I have repeatedly told him in the past.

The article further stated an agreement with Essex Highways had halved the bus service, but Essex Highways has nothing to do with the route. It is a commercial operation by Network Colchester, which Mr Oxford is well aware of.

Essex County Council has confirmed in writing there is nothing to prevent the bus reverting to the old route.

Residents are in negotiation with the senior management at the bus company on this matter.

This group has worked hard on this campaign, with little or no support from our elected representatives. It is disappointing to see inaccuracies being reported in this press.
