A TV actress will be among the 800 runners under starter’s orders at Great Bentley Green for a half marathon on Sunday.

Phoebe Thomas, best known as nurse Maria Kendall in BBC1 show, Holby City, has been training with the village club for the event.

Ms Thomas left Holby City last year after three years in the cast, having made her TV debut in the Channel 4 sitcom, Teachers. She is now working with the website, www.running withus.com, which helps runners develop their skills.

Village magazine editor Mary Maskell is urging local people to support the run.

She said: “It’s quite an honour for a small village like ours to host this race.”

Runners set off from the Plough Road centre at 10.30am and will start crossing the line on the green about an hour later.

The event is being organised by the village running club, which now has some 120 members. Money raised will go to Help for Heroes.

The local football club will be running a paella stall, while tea and cakes will be served at the village hall and a band will be playing on the green.
