ANTIQUES enthusiasts descended on Colchester as BBC TV show Flog It! came to town.

Between 300 and 500 items were brought in for valuation to Colchester Town Hall yesterday. TV crews were also out in Colchester filming scenes for several episodes with presenter Paul Martin, which will be screened next year.

Julia Foot, the show’s producer, said: “We were really thrilled with the turnout and with the range of stuff people brought in.

“We had everything from brass figurines of dogs to a vintage bottle of wine, Roman coins and books about clocks, which is great because we will be filming at Tymperleys Clock Museum.

“The Moot Hall is also a fantastic room to film in.

“It’s beautiful.”

Eric Garnham, of Elizabeth Way, Brightlingsea, was pleased to be told a Minton porcelain figure of a girl he bought from a charity shop for £1 was worth £80.

He said: “They said it was 18th century and very well moulded.

“They were very impressed with it.

“I had no idea what it was worth, but I’ve put it into auction.

“I bought it from a charity shop ten years ago for about £1, so it’s quite a good investment.”

Petra Herdieckerhoff, of Railway Street, Braintree, was told her 1890s German vase was worth between £80 and £120.

She said: “I had an idea of what it was worth after researching it.

“I inherited it, but it has little sentimental value so I put it in for the auction.”

Scenes filmed on the day will feature in four episodes spread throughout the next series of the BBC show.

The auction will take place at Reeman Dansie, in Wyncolls Road, Severalls Business Park, Colchester, on November 23.
