AT least 13 people were injured when a trailer overturned at a farm that hosts game shoots. Colchester Hospital, where some of the victims were being treated, described it a a "major incident".

Casualties were taken to accident and emergency in several ambulances after the accident at Lodge Farm, Great Bentley.

A statement from the East of England Ambulance hospital Service said two patients were taken to Queen’s Hospital in Romford by helicopter and one to Addenbrokes Hospital in Cambridge.

Two more were flown Colchester General Hospital and ten more patients were expected at the Turner Road hospital.

The A&E unit was closed off to non-serious admissions, with non-emergency patients being directed to the walk-in centre. It is being guarded by security staff.

Most of the casualites were described as "walking wounded".

Mark Prentice, hospital spokesman, siad: “We are liaising with the ambulance service.

“A major incident response has been set up, identifying beds, alerting theatres.

“We are trying to replicate the level of service we provided at the Great Cornard railway crash.”
