A MOTHER who bought a card game for her three-year-old son was shocked to find it contained offensive language.
Mother of three, Anna Royce, bought the “Doodlewonker” card game as part of a “lucky bag” full of games and activities from Poundland, in Colchester.
It was for son Jamie, so she was shocked to discover two of the cards inside featured unsuitable language. Mrs Royce, 32, from Langdale Drive, Colchester, said: “It was only after he had played with them and I was clearing it all away that I spotted what was written on the cards.
“I couldn’t believe it, particularly because it clearly states on the bag it is suitable for children aged three and over.
“I was pretty shocked to be honest, and I suspect it must be someone, somewhere along the line, having a joke, which is a shame because the bag is aimed at children.”
Mrs Royce said she was surprised to discover that despite complaining to Poundland’s head office, the bags were still on the shelves available to buy a week later.
A spokesperson for the company said: “All our products are inspected by our experienced quality assurance department to ensure they are fit for sale.
“The lucky bag in question carries an age restriction of 3+ years and all contents are deemed to be appropriate for children of this age.
“Poundland will investigate the card game contained in the lucky bag to ensure it is suitable for purpose.”
