STAR DJ Tim Westwood is set to drop some hot hip-hop tunes at a popular seafront nightspot.

The Radio One star is regarded as one of the most influential figures in hip-hop in Europe and as a pioneer of the UK hip-hop scene.

He will be playing at the Liquor Lounge, one of Clacton’s newest bars, tomorrow.

The former pirate radio DJ has fronted the popular Radio One Rap Show since 1994 and also presents the UK version of the MTV Pimp My Ride show.

Lee Milleare, who owns the club in Marine Parade East, said signing up Westwood for the event was a further boost for the venue, which hosted a night by Radio One DJ Judge Jules in May.

“Obviously it’s a big thing having another Radio One DJ down here,” he says.

“We have got Westwood on a Saturday night, which is also amazing.

“He will be doing his usual Radio One show tomorrow, so it is hard to prise him away after that.

“But he will be coming straight down to Clacton after his show.

“Clacton is a different place now summer’s here, so we expect it to be a busy night.”

There will be a two-hour set by Westwood and warm-up sets will be played by Dre and DJ Bounce.

Lee, who wants to establish the Liquor Lounge as a major East coast venue, said the popular house music club night, Hed Kandi, will also be hosting regular events at the club, starting from August 7.

Tickets for the Westwood event, which takes place tomorrow, cost £5 and are available in advance from the Liquor Lounge or Hoop Hairstylists, in Rosemary Road, Clacton.
