Colchester United legends have been practising their penalties on a piece of hallowed turf from the old Layer Road football ground.
MP Bob Russell bought the turf from one of the penalty spots during an auction when the U’s moved in 2008.
He invited two U’s stars of yesteryear – Bobby Hunt and Peter Wright – to unveil a plaque next to the patch of grass outside his New Town offices.
The pair relived their glory days by taking a few penalties on the lush green.
Mr Hunt, who holds the Colchester United record for the most goals in a season – 37 in 1960/61 – said: “It brought it all back a bit, to be standing there and know that turf was once at Layer Road.”
