ASPIRING artists in Colchester have transformed a run-down part of town by spray-painting a row of blank hoardings.

The group of six created the art work outside Roman House, in Queen Street. The display is part of a long-running project organised by Colchester arts organisation, Firstsite.

The young people, from High Woods and St Andrews, have been working with graphic design artist, Shaun Dipper. It is hoped the display will kickstart community involvement in the Cultural Quarter, an area of cultural activity in the town centre being devised by Colchester Council.

Judith Merritt, Firstsite’s head of learning, said: “We are proud to be working with these young people to help draw people back into this neglected area of town. Their street art is vibrant and exciting and reflects the skills they have developed working with other artists.”
