Residents in Hatfield Peverel have won their fight to block a controversial housing development from being built in the village.
Almost 50 residents attended Witham Area Committee meeting last night in Silver End village hall to voice objections against plans for flats in picturesque Kissingate.
Woodhill Property Developments had lodged a planning application to replace a large house in Church Road with ten two-bedroom flats.
Members of Braintree Council's Witham area committee voted unanimously against the advice of planners to reject the development on the grounds it would lead to increased traffic and noise and have a detrimental impact on the environment.
Resident Mick Henry said: "The development is totally out of character for the area."
Woodhill Property Developments refused to comment on the decision.
