LIFEBOAT crews in Southend had their work cut out last year, saving the lives of more than 130 people.
Using the hovercraft to rescue people stuck in the mud and ferrying firefighters to the end of Southend Pier during the October fire at the landmark were just some of the 127 launches Southend RNLI coped with in 2005.
In total, 136 people were rescued, making Southend lifeboat station the busiest in the East division.
